What a great group Sunday! Many new faces, much new laughter. A festive evening, really, enjoying dancing! The dance line was fun way to meet people. Dancing If you are shy, dancing will help you overcome that--you can truly be yourself when you dance--joy helps us do so much! (end of lecture [GRIN])
Keep watching this site for new information on dance events. Modei's periodic announcements to the email list will be posted here as soon as possible after he sends them out. I'll put other events here if I learn of them as as my time permits. If you know of a Latin music/dance event in the area *please* email Modei and me so we can get the news to folks asap! Keep on Dancing!

We saw a number of familiar faces at this excellent event! And some folks we know from other dancing arenas! In all the years we have lived in Iowa City we have never been to the Eagles lodge before. Needless to say we were more than surprised at the nice room and the excellent smooth wood dance floor! And for us non-smokers, the dance room was non-smoking. Smoking in the front bar only.
A huge thanks to Nora Marcos, Oscar Lara, Kameron Spears for organizing this event and for booking Extasis to perform. What great music, both contemporary and traditional tango! Oscar and Kameron gave a brief lesson of how to do the "walking tango." Oscar took turns dancing with many of the women in attendance, demonstrating how they really *could* dance--and that in Argentine Tango the man must be a strong dance leader. Argentine Tango is both a walking dance and a turning dance. From a few basic moves you can begin dancing immediately. It is the decorations you include in basic moves that add to the level of complexity. Some folks primarily listened to the music but most danced. I suspect some started dancing where they had planned to just listen. It's hard to resist dancing to a real Tango orquesta! If Extasis come through Iowa City again---DON'T MISS THEM--you will thoroughly enjoy yourself!

Subject: Re: Tango update!
Tango meetings are on an occasional basis and held on Fridays. PLEASE CONTACT Gail, Oscar, or Nora to CONFIRM that there will or will not be a dance on the Friday you are interested in. We will meet at 7:00PM at the Wesley Center, 120 North Dubuque Street, Iowa City. NEW FORMAT--Fall 2002: First hour, Salsa Lesson from Reginald Williams, then proceed to tango into the night! PLEASE CHECK TO CONFIRM DATES OF UPCOMING SESSIONS--particularly in the summer with vacations, etc.!!!
There will be a $1.00 donation requested of each person to cover the use of the hall. This should give us much more space than before. (Many thanks to Gail for offering this larger location to the cause of learning and dancing Argentine Tango!!)
See you at the Wesley Center! - Please check to confirm each session in case of change of plans or availability.

Tantalitastic salseros y salseras,
Hola a todos!
An eventful last class this past sunday. Thanks to all who make sundays exquisitely enjoyable.
The classes are done for this year. An email in the dead of winter in the coming year will reboot the scene.
Greetings from Curacao from Mark Hawkins at the end of the email.
Find a note from DJ Juan about his annual toy drive at the end of the email.
Good luck to those, in the stark face of exams, who battle the ravages of our fairweather friend, procrastination.
Artic salseros y salseras,
Hola a todos!
Hope all deal with various year end angsts successfully.
This sunday, December 8, will be the last class of 2002. We will just hold a regular class with open dancing interspersed. The emails will continue with events of note during the interim.

3. Push-n-Pull dynamics

Practice your salsa poise (open dance floor)
7:20 PM - 8:00 PM (intermediate-advanced)

I've also caught wind of a Latin Night at the Press Box (formerly Maxie's in Iowa City) on wednesdays. A call from a well-placed source confirmed this. The times are 9:00 p.m. to close, no cover. The disc jockey is "DJ Splendor." I will list this in the events when I get more info and feedback about this night (as well as the "zumba" teaching http://www.zumbafitness.net.) I would also love to know of events in West Liberty, West Branch, Muscatine, etc.

Nice class last week. Hello to all new souls and zarabanda thanks.
We are skipping class this friday (Dec.1 -World AIDS day.) We will reconvene on Dec. 8. BTW, the room will be unused, so its use by an organized salsa junta is fine - talk amongst yourself.

Glossy salseros y salseras,
Hola a todos!
Nice work last week with the new combinations. Welcome to the new faces and Zarabanda graces.
We will NOT hold classes this sunday, november 17, unfortunately. The room is available, though, and if anyone deigns bring a box, dancing can occur. If someone can confirm that they will bring music, I will send a second email in the early afternoon today to let all of you know. No second email by the end of the day will mean a deserted room on sunday. We will be back to our salsanigans on november 24.

Hello Everyone
Greetings from Curacao. I arrived here safely a couple of weeks ago. I am working for a couple of weeks consulting at the University of the Netherlands Antilles and am looking for full-time work. I have a couple of good prospects at two medical colleges--one on Curacao and one on the neighboring island of Bonaire. Hopefully I'll have something soon full-time.
I have been busy working so I have only been out dancing a few times but it is great to see some of my old friends. I have had to adjust from being the "salsa king of Fairfield" to being just a regular dancer here but at least there are lots of great dancers and teachers to learn from. I have reconnected with my old salsa teacher here, Stephen Walroud, and once I start working full-time, I'll start taking lessons again. But it's great having lots of choices of where to dance and not having to drive hours to get there. -MH
For those of you interested in donating a gift to the children living at the Domestic Violence Shelter for Christmas, you have until December 20th to make those donations. As of right now they have approximately 7 children varying in age from infants (less than a year) to 4 years old. They may have a few more by then. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and you will be helping a great cause.
My only request for the donations is that it not be violence oriented. If you would like to make a financial donation, let me know. I will be going out Dec. 22nd to make some last minute shopping (additional gifts, wrapping paper, etc) and then delivering the donations that evening.
My contact numbers are: (Cell), (Home)
Thank you and Merry Christmas to all, -DJ 1uan
