(64)(65) He was buried on 5 Sep 1927 in St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery, Allegany, New York.(66) He has reference number 1. Came alone at the at the age of 23 to America aboard the ship BELLONA.The ship sailed from Le Harve, France after first taking on passengers in London. He travelled in steerage. The boat left London on 9 Nov 1869 and left Le Harve on 11 Nov 1869. There were 399 passengers of which 175 were from Germany. Upon arrival in Olean, New York he worked as a farm laborer and at a tannery before operating "The Standard Hotel" between the years of . The hotel was located at 720 Wayne St. and included a saloon and restaurant. He applied for citizenship in 1880 and was granted citizenship in 1882. Was living with daughter Frances Frey in the 1915 Census and stayed at her home until his death in 1927. He died at the age of 80 of Bright's disease. Suzanne Engelbach Leeseberg recalls that he was blind at the time of his death. He is buried at St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery in Allegany, New York alongside the Frey family.

but as of April, 1998 have no proof that her she came from a family of farmers
when in Germany. She bought 4 properties between the years 1868 and 1883. She
sold 3 properties between the years 1889 and 1894. After 1894, she was no longer
buying or selling any properties. The buying and selling was being done by other
Engelbach family members. The property on Wayne St. in Olean was purchased in
1883 for $400.00 by Catherine. Additional property on Wayne and 7th St. was purchased
by Charles and John Engelbach in the year 1883 for $2000.00 from Catherine's
sister, Elizabeth Thulin. Her mother, Francis Mayer was living with Adolph and
Catherine in the 1875 New York State Census. She remarried after that date and
before 1882 as she sold property and premise to her 3 children: John Mayer, Catherine
Engelbach and Elizabeth Thulin. She was referred to as "Francis Lippert"
and sold the property to her children for $1.00 in the year 1882. Many properties
were bought and sold among family members for $1.00 between the years 1906 and

has reference number 8. Believe she died as a small child as she was not in
any later census papers. She may have died prior to 1893 as Frances named her
firstborn "Clara". Frances may have named her firstborn after Clara.

May 1882.(74) She died on 22 Aug 1882.
(75) She has reference number 9. St. Mary
of the Angel Records indicate she was buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Allegany
but the cemetery (St. Bonaventure Cemetery) lost most records in a fire that
occurred in 1930.
